The Mission of the Trooper Challenge Mud Run

To create a fun, unique and family oriented event created by the North Carolina Highway Patrol, Troop D, to promote wellness for and positive interaction with the citizens that we serve within the great state of North Carolina.

Trooper Challenge

The Trooper Challenge Mud run is a 5k course with military style obstacles and mud pits that will be both achievable for the novice and taxing for the elite. Participants must be age 13 and above. There is a Cap of 500 participants. The event will kick off at 9:30 am with waves of 100 participants every 10 minutes to help avoid crowding at the obstacles.

Jr. Trooper Challenge

The Jr. Trooper Challenge is a small-scale mud run with a smaller mud pit created just for kids to promote fun and wellness. Kids will get muddy and dirty! The event will kick off at 9:00 am. T-shirts will not be provided for the Jr. Trooper Challenge.

The Trooper Challenge Mud Run will take place on Saturday, September 10th 2011, At latitude 35.9474 N and longitude 79.322 W. A.K.A. Saxapahaw, NC, on the farm land of Jordan Properties, 1735 Saxapahaw-Bethlehem Church Rd, Saxapahaw, NC 27340. Parking will be provided on site. Please plan and arrive early to avoid last minute traffic congestion.

Event cost and registration:

Cost for the Trooper Challenge will be $35.00 when you register prior to August 1, 2011 and $45 .00 when you register on or after August 1, 2011. Online registration will be available through www.sportoften.com The registration deadline is September 4th , 2011. A t-shirt will not be guaranteed for registrations received after August 15, 2011.

The only registration open on race day will be for the Jr Trooper Challenge. 
Registration will be $5.00., payable at the command center. Jr. Troopers must have a parent or gaurdian to sign a waiver.

Pre-race packet pickup will be available at Fleet Feet in Carrboro NC on Friday September 9, 2011, between 4-6 pm. Race day packet pickup will be located at the command center between 7-8 am.

Trooper Challenge will be open for ages 13 and up. The Jr. Trooper Challenge will be for ages 5-12. Trooper Challenge participants ages 13-18 will need to use the online waiver and will also need a parent or guardian to sign the waiver on site. Participants ages 18 and up may use the online waiver.

Theme :

This Trooper Challenge is being held during the September 11 Weekend; the theme for this event is HEROES. Costumes are welcome, you may come dressed as your favorite hero such as a fireman, police officer , or even a super hero. There will be a prize, which is (classified) at this time, 
for the best costume. The winner will be selected by the Highway Patrol Troop D Commander.

Please remember that this is a FAMILY EVENT and event staff reserves the right to deny participation without refund for a non family oriented costume. If you don’t believe us try us.

This year The Trooper Challenge has chosen THE EVE CARSON SCHOLARSHIP FUND to receive all proceeds from the race. The Eve Carson Scholarship’s mission is to celebrate junior year students who have demonstrated transformative development at the University Of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In providing students the opportunity to celebrate students, we honor Eve Carson’s legacy and her commitment to excellence with a heart. The scholarship, created in 2008, fulfills Eve’s original vision of providing an opportunity for students to continue their pursuit of the Carolina Way. Trooper Challenge Obstacles:

This 5k event will have 7 obstacles.

 Tires-(and a lot of them) Watch your feet as you navigate different size tires. These will sure slow you down.

 The Hills - (sounds easy) but some these hills are man made, some are pretty steep. Watch out for the mud pits at the bottom of the hills (wonder how deep they are?) Be prepared to get wet early in the race.

 Sewer Pipe- Sweep down on all fours as you crawl through 10 ft long sewer pipes (Wonder if they are used or new pipes?)

 The walls and the creek- We will leave it at that.

 Hay Bale Obstacle Course- Some you can jump, Some you will have to climb.

 This one is (CLASSIFIED) you will have to participate to find out about this one.

 THE MUD PIT- Knee deep mud pit that ALL participant will enter. Caution tape will be placed across the top of the pit, you will have to go under the tape and into the mud to get through this obstacle.

SAFETY and SPORTSMANSHIP:

Each obstacle will have event staff and safety personnel readily available. We reserve the right to extract you without refund from the event for safety reasons or bad sportsmanship. Profanity or nudity will not be tolerated.

Aid Station:

There will be a first aid station at the half way point with water and a medic. 
We will have the Rescue Squad on site at the event if needed.

Timing:

Cardinal Timing from Carrboro N.C. will provide disposable timing chips to track time for the participants.

Awards and Categories:

Prizes will be awarded for 1st and 2nd place in each 10 year age group for both males and females. A “Best Blood” award and a costume award will also be awarded. Prizes are (classified) at this time

We have taken special steps to have little or no impact 
on our environment while putting on this great event.
- Online registration only (except for kids)
- Recycle containers will be available at the event
- Drop box to recycle muddy running shoes
- Elimination of “ Swag Bags” to be be more eco-friendly

Spectators:

Spectators will be allowed to watch the event at no charge. There will be designated areas along the course for spectators. 
The course will be well marked.

Weather and refund policy:

The Trooper Challenge has a no refund policy. The event will be held rain or shine. In case of severe weather, natural or man made disaster, the event staff may cancel or delay the event.

The Trooper Challenge committee has been working hard with a local company to bring you a good looking t-shirt that you would be proud to wear out in public. Not some crazy color shirt that you probably would not even dry your car off with. Be sure to list your correct size when you register.

Post Race Food:

Snacks and drinks will be provided to all participants after the race.

If you or your families do not like our food, you may choose from one of our vendors or there will be something on site to suit everyone’s taste.
Coffee will be available for sale at pre-race.
