Make it a Mile Beginner Training Program

Make It a Mile is a four-week walking/running program designed to help beginners take the first steps to getting healthy by completing one mile. The program includes a safe, guided training plan designed to allow you to work at your own pace in a non-threatening, non-judgmental environment. At the end of the four weeks, you'll be mentally and physically able to complete one mile. We encourage participants to exercise at their own comfortable pace. This is a beginner walking or walk/run program but can also be used to get a little extra distance before our Beginner 5K: FINISH program.

  • Starts January 8th, 2018
  • Mondays at 6:30pm and Thursdays at 6:30 pm
  • Perfect for anyone looking to get started walking or running!

Beginner 5K: FINISH Training Program

Our Beginner 5K: FINISH program focuses on beginners, but all levels of walkers and runners are welcome. The program is structured to help you cross the finish line of your first race in just 12 weeks! It can also help existing runners meet new performance goals. Along the way we’ll provide you with motivation to keep you moving, guidance and advice, weekly group training runs or walks, and educational clinics on topics such as proper nutrition, choosing the right gear, and avoiding injury. Plus, you’ll have the camaraderie of others just like you!

Important Dates:

  • Information Session: Thursday, February 1st at 6:30 pm at Fleet Feet Carrboro
  • Season Starts: Tuesday, February 6th at 6:30 pm (Carrboro) or Wednesday, February 7th at 6:30 pm (Durham)
  • Season Logistics: Tuesdays at 6:30 pm in Carrboro, Wednesdays at 6:30 pm in Durham, and Saturday Mornings at 8 am alternating between the two stores.
  • Goal Race: Girls on the Run Spring 5K on April 29th, 2018

4 Mile Training Program

Our 4 Mile Training Program is perfect for participants who are looking to run a faster 5K/4 Mile race or continue building their endurance. This group will focus on pace and form - to ensure we reach the finish line as stronger and healthier runners. We introduce different components of training that will help build speed and strength. Often our weeknight workouts will include speed or interval training, strength training or hill repeats. This group is a part of our 10 & 4 Mile Training program.

Quick Overview:

  • Information Session: January 23rd at 6:30 pm at Fleet Feet Carrboro.
  • Start Date: January 30th & 31st, 2018!
  • Season Logistics: Tuesdays @ 6:30 pm in Carrboro, Wednesdays @ 6:30 pm in Durham & alternates between the two stores on Saturdays at 7:30 am
  • Goal Race: Fleet Feet 4 Miler 
  • Cost: $105 before January 1st (early bird), $115 after.
