The 4 and 10 Mile Training Program is designed to further runners and walkers towards their fitness and running goals. It will include an education on and pursuit of different training techniques and tools in order to further enjoy running and improve their performance. There are occasional clinics covering a wide range of topical issues on running, health, wellness and nutrition from the area’s leading experts.
The 4 Mile Training Program is divided up between beginning runners and advanced runners to accommodate all levels in ability. The Ten Mile Training Program will be divided up by pace. The advanced program will fine tune an athlete who has already built to a three mile distance. The beginner program will help someone build to a 4 mile distance and will include an all-walking sub group.
The program meets twice a week during the 12 week training period, once on a weeknight and once on Saturday morning. Times will vary based on the season and climate. The workouts will last about an hour to an hour and a half as we increase mileage throughout the season. In addition to the workouts there are educational clinics, motivational speakers, newsletters keeping you up to date, on-site physical therapy with Proaxis PT, monthly in-store cooking demos with Whole Foods and expert coaching/mentoring to help inspire and motivate you on this training journey.
Program details for the 2014 season are still to be determined. If you are interested in the program, please sign up for e-mail updates at the top of the page.
"Just wanted to send a quick thank you for your leadership with the Tar Heel 10 miler training program. It was a very positive experience for me. I really feel like I have made significant progress towards establishing running as a regular exercise routine and have these programs to thank. Not only do I feel healthier (I lost 60 lbs since starting the Fall NOBO), my endeavor to become healthier has inspired the rest of my family to do the same- an unanticipated bonus. I look forward to signing up for the 1/2 marathon (maybe even marathon) program later this summer."
"I wanted to say thank you, again, for a great training program. You were right - 10 miles was possible! I have appreciated all your encouragement and guidance over these past couple of years of FF training programs. I know so many people who feel the same way. Well done!"
"I wanted to take a minute to tell you THANKS for all you've done for us, and for me personally. Your cheerful, persistent belief that we could do this as first made me skeptical, then kept me going when it was hard, and now has convinced me the former "run hater." You and the other mentors are awesome."
